The Worst Ship Accident in Indonesia – In Indonesia, there are several ships that function for people to use. But not all types of ships can be done. Ships that sail also do not always run smoothly, many accidents occur. In the last three years, there have been at least six marine accidents or shipwrecks that occurred in Indonesian waters and claimed many lives.

1. KM Arin Jaya Drowning

The motorboat (KM) Arin Jaya carrying 52 passengers sank in the waters between Sapudi Island and Giliyang Island, Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java, Monday, June 17, 2019 morning. At least 21 people died.

The ship initially departed from Guwa-Guwa Harbor, Ra’as District, Sumenep, but during its voyage it sank and the passengers plunged into the sea.

“This traditional passenger ship normally carries around 30 passengers, but 52 passengers were boarded, so it is also suspected that the ship sank due to overload and was hit by big waves,” said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Frans Barung Mangera.

2. Shipwrecked in Kapuas

The motorboat crossing sank in the Kapuas River, Nanga Seberuang Village, Semitau District, Kapuas Hulu Regency, West Kalimantan, Saturday, January 19, 2019 night. As a result, 13 passengers were declared dead.

Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kapuas Hulu Police, Iptu Siko, said the ship was sailing from PT Berlian Estate Pier to PT SJRE Pier (Apeng) carrying 24 people and nine motorbikes.

“Before reaching Apeng Pier, about 10 meters away, this ship sank,” he said.

3. KM Arista sank in the Makassar Strait

The Jolloro type Arista motorboat carrying 35 passengers sank in the Makassar Strait, South Sulawesi, Wednesday, June 13 2018. At least 13 people were killed, mostly children and women.

The ship carrying 22 passengers was only about 5 miles away from Paotere Harbor to Barrang Lompo Island, but when it arrived in Gusung Waters, Ujung Tanah District, the ship was hit by wind and big waves.

“The ship immediately capsized and sank,” said Raudah, a survivor.

4. Speedboat sinks in Banyuasin

The speedboat ‘Awet Muda’ carrying 55 people sank after being hit by a wave at Tanjung Sere Bagan 13, Banyuasin, South Sumatra, Wednesday, January 3, 2018 afternoon. The death toll was 13 people.

Speedboat from Primer 2 Karang Agung, Musi Banyuasin to Palembang City. In the middle of the cruise, there were strong winds and tidal waves making the speedboat tossed around until it sank.

“The speedboat’s bow broke and immediately sank,” said Director of the Air and Water Police of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Robinson Siregar.
